Natural Remedies for Better Living

Holistic Health Benefits

Previously, I personally did not agree that traditional medicine, natural medicine, home remedies, herbal medicine or other terms were called alternative medicine. Precisely natural medicine is the main treatment in health problems.

Why? Because the human body is made of earth and water, naturally the products of the earth become proper nutrition and medicine for the human body.

I do not reject modern medicine that uses a lot of chemicals, of course, it is very helpful. but in my case and the people around me, holistic health is naturally needed in today's era. then what is holistic health?

Holistic health is a comprehensive and integrated approach to well-being that recognizes the interconnectedness of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. By embracing this holistic perspective, individuals can experience a variety of benefits that contribute to a more fulfilling and vibrant life.

Increase Overall Well-Being

One of the main advantages of adopting a holistic health approach is an increase in overall well-being. When we focus on all dimensions of our health, we create a harmonious balance that supports our body's natural ability to heal and develop. This balance contributes to increased energy levels, improved immune function, and a greater sense of vitality.

Strengthen the Immune System

Holistic health practices are known to have a positive impact on the immune system. By feeding our bodies with nutrient-rich foods, engaging in regular physical activity, and managing stress through relaxation techniques, we provide our immune system with the support it needs to fend off infection and disease.

Improved Mental Clarity

Mental health is an important component of holistic well-being. Practices such as meditation, mindfulness, and creative expression contribute to increased mental clarity and focus. By taking time to calm the mind and cultivate a positive mindset, individuals can experience reduced stress, anxiety and improved cognitive function.

Emotional Resilience

Emotional well-being is often overlooked but plays an important role in our overall health. Holistic health practices encourage emotional awareness and provide tools for managing and directing emotions effectively. This leads to greater emotional resilience, allowing individuals to respond to challenges with a sense of balance and equanimity.

Longevity and Vitality

A holistic lifestyle can contribute to increased longevity and vitality. By adopting habits that support physical health, mental clarity, and emotional balance, individuals are more likely to lead fulfilling lives into old age. The synergy between these various aspects of health creates a strong foundation for a vibrant and fulfilling life journey.

Holistic Healing and Prevention

Holistic health practices focus on addressing the root causes of health problems rather than treating symptoms. By addressing the underlying imbalances in body and mind, individuals can experience true healing and prevent future health problems from occurring. This proactive approach to health empowers individuals to take responsibility for their well-being.

The main foundation of health

There are four main foundations for a healthy lifestyle taught by the Prophet Muhammad which are expensive as a balance and integration between various aspects that affect physical, mental and social well-being. The following are the main foundations of the Prophet's healthy lifestyle (konwn as the Sunnah of the Prophet):

Health starts from the Qalbu (heart)

The qalbu (heart) here refers to two things, namely the heart (emotional and/or feelings (Spiritual)) and the heart anatomically means the organ of the heart. In which both the understanding of the heart emotionally (spiritually) and the heart anatomically become the main subject of one's health.

If his heart (emotionally (spiritually) is bad) then he will bring heart diseases such as Riya, arrogance, jealousy, envy, and so on. Which these heart diseases will slowly undermine a person's mental and physical health.

If the heart (anatomically (liver organ) is bad) then it will bring heart or liver diseases such as cirrhosis, cancer, hepatitis, abscesses and so on. Which if the disease has resided in the body can invite other diseases so that it becomes a compilation of diseases in the body.

Therefore the Prophet Muhammad 1400 years ago warned humans to guard their hearts both spiritually and anatomically. Which maintains emotional (spiritual) heart health will lead to stress management, connection with God, meditation and so on. Meanwhile, to maintain the liver anatomically, it will refer to diet management, exercise, quality rest and so on

the following writings about health starting from the heart (Qalbu)

Body cleansing or detoxification

Detoxification is a natural and or planned process to remove toxins or harmful substances from an individual's body. The goal is to cleanse the body's system of materials that can damage health and restore physiological balance. Although the body has its own mechanisms for dealing with toxins, detoxification can help support this system or speed up the process.

Detoxification can be done in a number of ways, including:

  1. Natural Detoxification: The body has organs such as the liver, kidneys, skin and intestines which play a role in the natural detoxification process. For example, the liver helps metabolize and remove harmful substances from the blood, while the kidneys help filter waste from the blood.
  2. Healthy Diet: Choosing foods that are rich in nutrients, fiber and antioxidants can help the body eliminate toxins naturally. Water, dietary fiber, green vegetables, fruits, and whole grains are important components of detoxification through diet.
  3. Fasting: Believe it or not your body has Haq and obligations (haq is getting something after completing an obligation), and one of the Haq of the body is fasting, temporary fasting from certain foods or drinks can give the body time to focus on healing and elimination poison. There is no doubt that the fasting taught by the Prophet Muhammad is the best, including fasting Monday-Thursday, fasting David, fasting Shawwal, fasting Ramadan and many other fasts.
  4. Supplements and Herbs: Certain supplements and herbs have detoxifying properties. However, the use of supplements must be based on the advice of a doctor or nutritionist, because not all supplements are safe or effective. Therefore I highly recommend detoxifying the body using natural ingredients which I will provide below

Expenses (cupping)

Cupping (Arabic: al-hijamah) is the local suction of blood from a small skin incision. Cupping is a method of treatment by removing static (thick) blood containing toxins from the human body. Cupping by vacuuming the skin and removing blood from it. This understanding includes the two main mechanisms of cupping, namely the process of vacuuming the skin and then proceeding with bleeding from the skin that has been vacuumed before.

Cupping can increase blood flow throughout the body. Reporting from Men's Health, Houman Danesh, M.D., assistant professor of anesthesia and rehabilitation medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, said that blood flow is the body's way of healing itself naturally. In the process of treatment, Danes often combines cupping with general therapy techniques.

Researchers have studied cupping mainly in China, and they found it useful for several conditions such as: Anxiety, Depression, Backache, Anemia, Eczema, Fertility, Diabetes, Gout, Insomnia, Varicose veins and many more.

Cupping was highly recommended by the Prophet Muhammad, Rasulullah SAW said: Indeed, the most ideal treatment that you use is cupping. (Hadith Muttafaq 'alaih: Bukhari and Muslim)

The unique thing about cupping is the suggestion from the angels when the Prophet Muhammad carried out the Isra Miraj event

but before cupping you should first consult a legal institution or a professional doctor in the cupping field, in Indonesia itself there is an official institution for cupping, namely the Indonesian Cupping Association (Bahasa : Perkumpulan Bekam Indonesia). So that the cupping process is carried out by experts.

3. Disease Prevention: Consuming halal and healthy food helps prevent the risk of food-related illnesses, such as diseases caused by microbial infections, toxins, or harmful chemicals.

4. Health Sustainability: Good and Halal food can help maintain health and provide the energy needed to carry out daily activities. This helps prevent overexertion and maintains a steady energy level.

5. Mental Well-being: Consumption of good and Halal food can also have a positive impact on mental well-being. Proper nutrition can affect mood and brain function, helping reduce the risk of mental disorders such as depression and anxiety.

6. A Sense of Peace and Serenity: Eating food that is lawful and in accordance with beliefs brings a sense of peace and serenity to the soul, because we know that we live life according to the values we believe in.

It is important to remember that good and Halal food is not only beneficial for the body, but also has broader benefits for overall well-being. Choosing food wisely and maintaining conformity with religious beliefs and personal values are important steps in maintaining holistic health and well-being.

Small conclusion point 2

The four main foundations of holistic health are:

By applying the four health foundation points above every day, you are actually implementing holistic health well. Evidence from the application of the four points of holistic health above is that Middle Eastern people have above-average health.

Besides that, you can also see traditional Chinese society, Japan, especially the Okinawa area, which adopts a healthy diet of natural foods, many of which have more than one hundred years of age.

The four main foundations of health will be further detailed in the next explanation and separate articles so that the information provided is complete and clear.

Balanced diet: sunnah eating of the prophet Muhammad

Sunnah of eating the Prophet Refers to the diet and eating habits taught and practiced by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The sunnah of eating Rasulullah SAW does not only cover the type of food consumed, but also how to eat, when to eat, and the ethics around food. This practice is the best example to be followed by anyone, especially Muslims as part of developing the most holistic healthy diet.

Good and halal food

Halal food is obtained and processed according to Islamic law. Of course, apart from being halal, food must also be nutritious, so that it is beneficial to the body and health. Quoted from the website of the Islamic Council of Victoria, halal in Arabic is explained as something that is good, permissible and lawful. For Muslims, the law on eating halal food refers to the Al-Qur'an Al-Baqarah verse 172. Of course. Halal food, of course, can be consumed by every human being on this planet.

Good food is a type of food that belongs to the healthy food group containing various nutrients. Terms of good and healthy food, namely clean, have good nutrition and balanced. A healthy food balance is a food that contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins.

Following the Prophetic Ethics

Here are some important aspects of the Sunnah of the Prophet's meal:

1. Allah's Name while Eating: The Prophet forbade saying Allah's name (Bismillah) before starting to eat. This is a way to honor and acknowledge God's gift for the sustenance given.

2. Eat when hungry and stop before full: Prophet Muhammad forbade eating when hungry and stopping before full, he even divided the contents of the stomach into three parts namely, 1/3 for food, 1/3 for air, and 1/3 for air.

3. Eat slowly and not in a hurry: Prophet Muhammad advised to eat slowly and not in a hurry. This aids the digestive process and gives the body time to feel full.

4. Good Eating Ethics: The Prophet's diet prohibits good ethics while eating, including speaking politely, eating with the right hand, and being grateful for the sustenance that God has given. Good eating etiquette can also contribute to mental and emotional wellbeing.

Quality sleep: Prophet Muhammad's sleep pattern

Prophet's sleep pattern is a role model in adopting healthy sleep habits and in accordance with Islamic teachings. The Prophet paid special attention to sleep quality and lived a sleep pattern that reflected a balance between physical, spiritual health and productivity. Here are some aspects of Rasulullah's sleep pattern:

4.1 understand the importance of sleep

Quality sleep has a very important role in maintaining our health and well-being. Good sleep gives time for the body to recover and regenerate itself after daily activities. Here are some reasons why quality sleep is so important:

1. Physical Recovery: Quality sleep helps in optimal physical recovery. During sleep, the body carries out processes of tissue repair, protein synthesis, and recovery of depleted muscles. It helps maintain health and physical strength.

2. Growth and Development: Adequate and quality sleep is very important for growth and development, especially in children and adolescents. During sleep, the body releases growth hormone which supports the growth and development process.

And there are still many lags, which will be further explained in the article on the Sunnah of the Prophet's sleep

Soothing Discomfort: Infection and Allergy Treatment at Home

While minor infections and allergies can disrupt your day, seeking medical attention isn't always necessary. By understanding the difference and employing some simple home remedies, you can often find relief and heal infection and allergy naturally.

Identifying the Culprit

The key to effective treatment lies in differentiating between infections and allergies. Infections are caused by invading pathogens like bacteria or viruses, triggering the immune system to fight back. This can lead to symptoms like fever, fatigue, and localized pain or inflammation. Allergies, on the other hand, are an overreaction of the immune system to harmless substances like pollen or dust. Common allergy symptoms include sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and congestion.

Combating Infections at Home

For mild infections, rest is crucial. Your body needs energy to heal. Getting plenty of sleep and staying hydrated with fluids like water or herbal teas can significantly boost your recovery.

For a sore throat caused by an infection, gargling with warm salt water can help soothe the discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also alleviate fever and aches.

Natural Allergy Relief

If allergies are plaguing you, tackling the allergen source is the first line of defense. Identify the trigger and minimize exposure. For example, during peak pollen seasons, keep windows closed and change clothes upon coming indoors.

Saline nasal irrigation, which involves flushing your nasal passages with a salt solution, can be highly effective in clearing congestion and reducing allergy symptoms. A cool mist humidifier can also help loosen mucus and ease breathing.

Natural antihistamines like quercetin, found in apples and onions, or vitamin C from citrus fruits, may offer some relief.  However, it's important to consult your doctor before starting any supplements, especially if you're taking medication.

Simple Steps for a Healthy Reproductive System

Trying to conceive naturally can be both exciting and daunting. While modern medicine offers valuable tools, many couples seek natural ways to support reproductive health. The good news is, several lifestyle adjustments and dietary choices can contribute to a healthy reproductive system, potentially increasing your chances of success.

Nourishing Your Body for Optimal Fertility

Food plays a vital role in supporting reproductive health. Here are some key dietary strategies you can incorporate:

  • Embrace Antioxidants: Free radicals can damage sperm and egg cells. Combat them by consuming fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. These are excellent sources of antioxidants like vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, and lutein, all crucial for protecting your reproductive system.
  • Fuel Up with Omega-3s: Studies suggest these healthy fats can improve sperm quality and regulate ovulation. Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and sardines are prime sources, along with flaxseeds and walnuts. Consider incorporating these into your meals regularly.
  • Focus on Folate: This B vitamin is essential for healthy cell division, particularly important for fetal development. Leafy greens, legumes, and fortified grains are rich in folate. Additionally, women trying to conceive should consider taking prenatal vitamins containing folic acid.
  • Prioritize Balanced Protein: Both men and women benefit from a balanced protein intake. Choose lean protein sources like fish, poultry, beans, and lentils to support your reproductive health. Limit processed meats, which may have negative health effects.

Lifestyle Choices for a Healthy Reproductive System

Beyond diet, several lifestyle practices can contribute to a healthy reproductive system and support your natural fertility journey:

  • Maintain a Healthy Weight: Being overweight or underweight can disrupt hormone regulation and ovulation. Aim for a healthy body mass index (BMI) through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
  • Manage Stress Effectively: Chronic stress can negatively impact hormone levels and ovulation in women, and sperm production in men. Techniques like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing can be helpful tools for managing stress and promoting relaxation.
  • Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: Excessive alcohol consumption can impair fertility in both men and women. Moderate caffeine intake is generally safe, but some studies suggest high doses might affect fertility. Consider reducing your intake if you suspect it may be impacting your chances of conceiving naturally.
  • Engage in Regular Exercise: Moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week promotes overall health and may improve ovulation regularity. However, remember that excessive exercise can be counterproductive. Aim for a balanced approach.
  • Prioritize Quality Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night. Sleep deprivation can disrupt hormone regulation, impacting fertility.

The Tree Pose (Vrksasana) is excellent for improving focus and calmness. By combining these poses with deep, mindful breathing, you can create a sense of inner peace and stability.

Adding more fiber to your diet can aid in the elimination of waste and improve overall kidney function.

Hydration Habits for Kidney Care

Keeping your kidneys healthy is as simple as staying hydrated. Water is the best drink for detoxification because it helps flush toxins from your body through the urinary system. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day, more if you're active or live in a hot climate. You can also hydrate with fruits and vegetables high in water content, like cucumbers and watermelons. Remember, when your urine is light in color, it's a good sign that you're well-hydrated.

Cleansing Herbs for the Urinary Tract

To enhance iron absorption, pair these foods with vitamin C-rich items like bell peppers or oranges.

Antioxidants for Arterial Health

Antioxidants are the body's defense against oxidative stress, which can damage blood vessels and lead to arterial health issues. Foods like blueberries, dark chocolate, and green tea are loaded with antioxidants that can help maintain the integrity of your arteries. Tomatoes are also great for arterial health due to their lycopene content, an antioxidant that may help reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.

Movement for Maintaining Blood Flow

Regular movement is key to keeping your blood flowing smoothly. Simple activities like walking, stretching, or even dancing can improve circulation and promote healthy blood flow. You don't need to engage in intense workouts; consistent, moderate exercise is enough to make a difference. Aim for at least 30 minutes of movement each day to keep your blood vessels in good shape.

Nutritional Psychiatry - Eating for Your Mind

Just as food affects our bodies, it also impacts our minds. Nutritional psychiatry, an emerging field, explores the connection between diet and mental health. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon and walnuts, are known to support brain function. Complex carbohydrates found in whole grains can help regulate mood, while leafy greens and legumes, high in folate, are linked to lower rates of depression. By eating a balanced diet, you can nourish your mind as well as your body, and potentially heal mental & psychological issues naturally.

Mindfulness Meditation for Mental Clarity

In the fast-paced world we live in, our minds can become cluttered with endless thoughts and worries. Mindfulness meditation offers a way to clear the mental fog and achieve clarity. It's a simple practice that involves focusing on your breath and being present in the moment. Even just a few minutes a day can reduce stress and enhance focus. You can start by finding a quiet space, sitting comfortably, and paying attention to your breath, letting thoughts come and go without judgment.

Creative Outlets for Emotional Expression

Expressing emotions is crucial for mental health, and creative activities provide a healthy outlet. Whether it's painting, writing, music, or dance, engaging in creativity can be therapeutic. It allows you to express feelings that might be hard to put into words, providing a sense of release and relief. You don't need to be an artist to benefit from creative expression; it's about the process, not the product. So, pick up a brush, a pen, or an instrument, and let your emotions flow through your creativity.

Combining mindfulness, a mindful diet, and creative expression into your life, you can support your mental and psychological health. Using these home remedies is a simple, easy-to-do way to care for your mind and can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Remember, these suggestions are for general health and should not replace professional medical advice, especially if you have mental health issues.
